Should unemployment benefits continue to be extended?
Do you think Congress should keep extending unemployment benefits?

RE: Should unemployment benefits continue to be extended?
I just heard that Republican Senator Tom Coburn is trying to block extending unemployment benefits...I mentioned Tom Coburn in a post I wrote yesterday...I admired him for the longest time and hoped he would run for president in the next election...But now I don't want anything to do with him. He will never get my vote. I am tired of all of the games and stunts and shenigans when it comes to extending unemployment benefits each time it comes up for a vote...These checks help families "get by" until more jobs start to open up.

RE: Should unemployment benefits continue to be extended?
I am in favor of extending unemployment benefits. I view it as socialistic, but I think that most Americans don't want to cope with the disadvantages of capitalism. It is a hard life, even if you receive unemplolyment benefits.
I don't like the idea of Americans laying around the house and not really looking for work, but it happens, and little can be done about it. |

RE: Should unemployment benefits continue to be extended?
Dale...I have never viewed unemployment benefits as "welfare." My Dad is probably turning over in his grave right now and having a rage-attack and cussing up a storm at Republicans who are making such a "stink" about extending unemployment benefits...It's disgraceful and disrespectful....We are lucky that we avoided going through a full-blown Depression....It will take a long time to recover and a long time for the economy to get back on it's feet...The jobs just aren't there right now.

RE: Should unemployment benefits continue to be extended?
Extending unemployment benefits? It will happen, because to vote against it is not popular or smart politically. As time goes by, our country is getting more and more socialistic. There was a time when there was no Social Security and no unemployment benefits.
Saying that we are getting more socialistic is not a bad thing to say, but rather it is saying that there is a trend toward that type of government. |

RE: Should unemployment benefits continue to be extended?
The extention of unemployment benefits is stalled in Congress again...I feel sorry for people who will be "cut-off." We wouldn't need the extention if jobs were plentiful and the economy was doing better...How do you feel about it? Thanks...

RE: Should unemployment benefits continue to be extended?
Industry, unions, foreign trade, taxation, cheap foreign labor and government are factors which lead us to the unfortunate situation that we are in.
It looks to me like the smart move would be to completely withdraw from Iran and Iraq, and extend unemployment benefits for about a year longer. Limit the amount of foreign manufactured products that can be sold in this country. Station our military on the border of Mexico, to arrest anybody caught crossing the border illegally, followed by deportation, or amnesty with financial help for the illegalsf, on a limited basis. There are lots of complications involved, and none of it is easy. |

Yes, it is tragic, actually, I think.

I sure hope things turn around in our country and decent paying jobs become plentiful again.

RE: Should unemployment benefits continue to be extended?
Well, I hope so too, and we will have to wait and see. I think that extension of unemployment benefits should be extended the next time, too. The problem of getting decent paying jobs may be harder to solve, and I don't look for much progress on that, but I hope I am wrong.
